Today marks the 105th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, a milestone that forever changed the course of American democracy. On August 18, 1920, after decades of tireless organizing, protest, and sacrifice, women won the constitutional right to vote—a victory sealed when Tennessee became the decisive 36th state to ratify the amendment.
This moment wasn’t just about ballots—it was about belonging. It was about women stepping into their rightful place as decision-makers, leaders, and shapers of our shared future. From Seneca Falls to suffrage parades, from hunger strikes to courtroom battles, the path was paved by courage and conviction.
But the story didn’t end in 1920. Many women—especially women of color—continued to face barriers to voting for decades. And even today, the fight for equal representation and bodily autonomy continues.
